I like waterfalls. I'm not sure why. But for some reason it is very enjoyable to hike to a waterfall (ideally the bottom of it), point my camera at it and press the button. Despite having acquired a fancy DSLR camera somewhere down the line, I am not a very good photographer, so most of these photos have lingered unseen on my hard drive for years. Until now, when I am sharing them with you, that is.

There are a number of sites like the World Waterfall Database out there that will tell you exactly how high and how wide a waterfall is and pinpoint its exact location on a map and so forth. Unfortunately I am not very good at figuring out that sort of thing, though I do greatly admire those who do. (The benchmark example of such scholarship is Kevin Adams's book North Carolina Waterfalls, which should be in every waterfall lover's library, regardless of whether or not they live in North Carolina or ever intend to visit that place.) I will try to include at least some information in order to spice up my rather average photos, as the opposite extreme (just a photo, with a caption stating the name of the waterfall, if you're lucky, or DSC_08156.jpg, if you're not) has always slightly bothered me.

This selection of waterfalls is biased towards places I have actually lived, which at present includes New York, the UK and the North Island of New Zealand, as well as places I have visited on holidays which are so far not very many (from which waterfall photos have survived at any rate).
